Nudie Jeans – Woad/Guado Dyed Collection Posted: 23 Mar 2012 12:12 AM PDT It went by the unsavory term of Devil’s Dye for a good reason. So true and deep was the blue color dye extracted from Woad plant, it was said to mesmerize men, even seductive. But the true reason for its ban from Europe 500 years ago was more of a form of trade protectionism. The potency of Woad plant was such, it rendered European strain of the indigo plant useless. Such outcome would be ruinous that the import of Woad from India was viewed to be a crime punishable by death in certain parts of Europe. There was no escape, however, from its superiority. Soon afterwards, Woad-base dye became the most sought after. In reviving the story of behind this most unique dyestuff, Nudie Jeans asked artisans from Marche, Italy, to produce indigo from Woad (or Guado) the traditional way. The process was by no mean an easy one. From 1000 kilos of Woad leaves, craftsmen only eked out 1 kilos worth of indigo dyestuff. In turn, Nudie Jeans only made a limited run of its Woad/Guado Collection. Hand dyed and processed, each item within the Nudie Jeans Woad/Guado Collection includes a special Woad/Guado stamp along with a designation from 1 to 700. In various of designs from blazer, henley, t-shirts, chino, and denim, the collection will available exclusively at a handful of Nudie Jeans flagship, as well as denim specialty stores like 14 Ounce Berlin, Tinue de Nimes (Amsterdam), Liberty London, Aplace (Stockholm) and Atrium (New York).

Jun Watanabe x Reebok Insta Pump Fury Posted: 22 Mar 2012 11:00 PM PDT These are for the sneaker aficionados who believe that more is more when it comes to turning out a proper pair of kicks, and that good things happen when designers let their freak flags fly. This Jun Watanabe x Reebok Insta Pump Fury fuses a white and black polka dot upper with a gradient fuchsia-purple midsole, marrying an eye-catching pattern with an equally arresting pop of color. It renders the Insta Pump Fury as delightfully strange as when it first appeared in the sneaker landscape in the early ’90s, and gives the shoe a bit of personality thanks to the appearance of Jun’s Mr. Bottle Head character on the leather pull tabs. The exhibition will include a 60-foot-long mural covering a wall of the museum’s second floor landing, done entirely in acrylic and set to debut on March 31st, when the show officially opens. Posted: 22 Mar 2012 08:00 PM PDT Paul Van Doren’s iconic invention, the vulcanize waffle sole, is just about to get bigger, quite literally. In an effort to promote its most valuable and less visible asset, VANS has created a series of side products featuring the gum rubber creation from Van Doren. While the ever popular VANS Waffle Sole cellphone case is flying off the shelves, the latest rendition is actually the shelve. Situated within the new VANS flagship in Lodz, Poland, the waffle sole display prominently features thirteen VANS sneakers as the retail location’s centerpiece. Interior designers also put efforts to incorporate certain aspects of the skate park into the new storefront. In addition to the waffle sole, workers shaped displays into skate rails and other familiar elements. No words yet on VANS bring the concept to other flagship stores. via: Tenisfuki
