Miami Heat Joined The “Hoodie Protest” Over Trayvon Martin’s Death

Miami Heat Joined The Hoodie Protest Over Trayvon Martins Death

In a display of outrage and solidarity, Miami Heat players made an unmistakeable statement yesterday afternoon with a group pose in their team hoodies. Though simple in appearance, the act was in reality a sign of protest which stemmed from the shooting death of Florida teen Trayvon Martin. Though unarmed, the local police failed to investigate Martin’s death further because the perpetrator claimed the shooting was in self defense. However, the controversy and racial overtone surrounding the case have stirred up anger across the U.S. It also gave raise to the “Hoodie Protest”, a symbolic gesture to Martin, who also wore a hoodie when incident occurred. After a photo of the team’s pose got posted on LeBron JamesTwitter account with hashtags “#WeAreTrayvonMartin #Hoodies #Stereotyped #WeWantJustice”, team member Dwyane Wade added a photo of himself in a hoodie on his Twitter profile (see below). New York Knicks’ Amar'e Stoudemire, who’s originally from the Orlando area, also wore a hoodie during preparation for last’s game against the Raptors. To learn about the circumstance behind the Martin’s death and to take part in the protest, log on to Change.Org’s online petition for more details.

Grand Central Terminal Anniversary Logo

Grand Central Terminal Anniversary Logo

New York City’s Grand Central Terminal turns 100 years old next year, and the milestone is being marked with a new logo, created by Michael Bierut and Joe Marianek of design firm Pentagram, based on the clock atop the central information booth in the terminal’s main concourse. The hands of the stylized clock are positioned at 7:13, or 19:13 in trainmaster’s time, which is the year the terminal opened. Underneath the image are the words “Grand Central” and “100 Years,” written in a sans-serif typeface known as Avenir. (The logo will continue to be used going forward, with “100 Years” dropped after 2013.) The is one of New York’s most important transportation hubs, serving the 700,000 people daily who use the Metro-North Railroad, the country’s largest commuter rail system. It’s also a bustling shopping and dining destination, and the design team at Pentagram has built a marketing campaign centered around the word “Grand.” See examples of the campaign in the gallery below.

Monster CEO Noel Lee Discusses Life After Dr. Dre

Monster CEO Noel Lee Discusses Life After Dr. Dre

Forbes caught up with Monster Cable CEO at this year’s SXSW to discuss the state of the company in the wake of its split from Beats by Dr. Dre. Monster had been the exclusive manufacturer of Beats headphones, the sales of which accounted for half of the $1 billion headphone business in the U.S. The partnership dissolved early this year — a development foretold by HTC’s acquisition of a 51% stake in Beats for $300 million last summer — leading Forbes to put the question directly to Lee: What’s next for Monster in the post-Beats era? Quite a bit, it turns out: Monster will continue releasing its own line of headphones, with upcoming collaborations planned with Miles Davis and Earth, Wind & Fire, as well as a headphone line called Inspiration, featuring interchangeable headbands to complement one’s wardrobe. Check out the video interview following the click.

MINI John Cooper Works Countryman – “Human Flight” Commercial | Video

MINI John Cooper Works Countryman Human Flight Commercial | Video

We previously showcased the 2013 MINI John Cooper Works Countryman, which has a turbocharged 1.6-liter engine generating 215 horsepower and 207 lb-ft of torque. They’re by no means shabby numbers, but we’re not sure they’re good enough to enable flight, like this new commercial seems to suggest. The clip depicts the JCW Countryman hurtling through a desert landscape with a man in a wingsuit perched atop the roof. He lets go, and we see that a guide rope tethers him to the vehicle even as he becomes airborne. The , meanwhile, is rapidly approaching the edge of a cliff. We’ll let you see for yourself how this cliffhanger (pun definitely intended) unfolds by viewing the video below.

Urwerk UR-110 “Torpedo” ST & TTH

Posted: 23 Mar 2012 07:30 PM PDT

Urwerk UR 110

The UR-110 by Swiss watchmaker Urwerk has won acclaim — and its fair share of detractors — for its asymmetrical display, featuring a unique movement made up of a central bearing around which three satellite “torpedoes” rotate. The time can only be seen when looking at the right side of the dial, which features a vertically arced line graded from 0 to 60 minutes. The movement also includes a seconds indicator, day/night indicator and “oil change” indicator (the timepiece has to be sent away to be serviced every few years). Uwerk has debuted two new styles of the UR-110 model — the UR-110 TTH and UR-110 ST. The UR-110 TTH features a bezel crafted from tantalum, an especially dense and hard metal known for its corrosion resistance and bio-inertness, that has a thickness of 4.10mm (other UR-110s have bezels measuring 2.40mm). The UR-110 ST, meanwhile, is distinguished by a unique grooved AlTiN bezel. Click through for more looks.

PORTER x J.W. Anderson – Men’s Fashion Show Backpack

Posted: 23 Mar 2012 06:00 PM PDT

PORTER x J.W. Anderson Mens Fashion Show Backpack

A Thespian by training, Jonathan William Anderson‘s unwavering interest in stage costumes propelled him to pursue a second career as a fashion designer. Not long after, Anderson was back on stage again, but rather than him taking the leading role, it would be his clothing instead. At the Spring/Summer 2012 Collection presentation for his namesake label, Anderson turned to Japan’s luggage specialists at PORTER and its parent company, Yoshida & Co., for a distinctive yet complementary backpack design. The finished product was the archetype of what Anderson’s design stood for, an approach based more on craft than fashion trends. In premium leather, a straw-like basket weave panel accentuates the front of the backpack. Another series of intertwine leather cords highlight the shoulder straps, while breathable mesh padding ensures a comfortable fit. For storage, each of the packs comes with on main compartment and four zipped external pockets. Available now in colors white, black, and brown at England’s oki-ni online store.

FREIGHTLINER Revolution Innovation Truck Concept

Posted: 23 Mar 2012 03:30 PM PDT

FREIGHTLINER Revolution Innovation Truck Concept

The commercial trucking industry is responsible for carrying products from A to B in almost every sector  of our economy and to almost every corner of our country, bringing to life the industry’s motto: “If you bought it, a truck brought it.” So it makes sense for a leader in the trucking industry, FREIGHTLINER, to work to redefine the face of commercial trucking with innovations in aerodynamics, building materials, and engine design wrapped into their Revolution Innovation truck concept. Revealed at this week’s Mid-America Trucking Show in Kentucky, the Revolution Innovation stole the spotlight with changes that demonstrated the brand’s knowledge of their prominent end-user, the driver. In addition to changes in framing materials that save an average of 200 pounds and the positions of the engine and axle, designers built this next generation truck with fuel efficiency in mind and scrapped the second door in place of an improved work and cabin layout. Changes in lighting and low-drag cameras mark key exchanges on the outside of the concept, which is a fully functional truck that will soon be operational. Hit after the jump to check out the full video of its features and scroll through additional shots. via: Autoblog
