Sneaker Freaker x PUMA Bunyip

Sneaker Freaker x PUMA Bunyip

In all cultures throughout the ages, strange occurrences were often explained away by the inclusion of cryptid or creatures of unknown origin. North America has its Big Foot and Jersey Devil, the Himalayas has its Yeti, and while lesser known to the world, Australia has its Bunyip. Purported to be everything from walrus like to dingo forms, some even describe the Bunyip as 6-foot lizard walking upright. Whatever they might be, they are as mysterious as their otherworldly counterparts around the globe. To shed some light into the dark caldron that theory of evolution forgot, Simon “Woody” Wood of Sneaker Freaker fame decided to materialize his theory of the Bunyip. With help from , Woody created the Sneaker Freakers x PUMA Bunyip, essentially a re-constituted PUMA Dallas sneakers with premium suede, leather lining, and thick crepe rubber sole. A bit rough on the edges and slightly mystifying, the x PUMA Bunyip captures the same cryptic aura as the real-life Bunyip has in the swamps Down Under before recorded history. Set to be available on May 15th throughout select PUMA retail accounts in Asia.

Release Date: May 15th, 2012 (Tuesday)

Nike Free – Face Off Competition | By W+K Tokyo

Nike Free Face Off Competition | By W+K Tokyo

Perhaps the folks at Wieden+Kennedy Tokyo watched too much of John Woo’s martial arts flicks. Started off over the weekend was the newest and maybe the zaniest idea from the good people at W+K Tokyo branch, the Nike Free Face Off. Set aside the John Woo reference for a moment and the concept is pretty straight forward. Sign onto the competition website, turn on your web cam, and make a funny face, that is it. The backend, however, isn’t so simple.

With algorithm from a facial recognition software, key points of your facial expression are converted into measurements. The degrees of flex between your eyebrows and your chin are now diagonal calculations. The level of symmetry of your mouth and others are now horizontal calculations. The computation even take into account the color your clothing and backdrop. Then the fun part begins. Each of the key indexes are put through the NIKEiD program and presto, your facial expressions control your very own Nike Free Run+ sneaker and the color of your clothing designate its colorway. The more you distort your face, the more twist and warp your Free Run+ becomes. Once you’re satisfy with your creation of “silliness”, submit it onto the Face Off Competition and let your fellow Free Run+ fans vote. The winner of each week gets a gift card, as well as a very sore face. Unfortunately, only contestants in Japan can enter this weekly thrill fest that will last till May 31st.

Competition Dates: Now – May 31st, 2012 (Thursday)

Nike Air Force 1 – “One of The Ones” Celebration | Event Recap

Nike Air Force 1 One of The Ones Celebration | Event Recap

At the 1982 introduction of Nike Air Force 1, six premier athletes at the time – Moses Malone, Michael Cooper, Jamaal Wilkes, Bobby Jones, Mychal Thompson, along with Calvin Natt, were chosen to be the bearers of the brand’s first foray into the sport of basketball. With those same embodiments, Nike China unveiled “The New Six” over the weekend during its “One of The Ones” celebration in Beijing. Though without the same physical prowess as the original six, each of “The New Six” members contribute through their creativity, either through hip-hop or other mediums. As for the event’s finale, the all-important Air Force 1′s 30th Anniversary tribute also marked the release of Nike Air Force 1 Low Max Air VT – Camo Edition, which had many in the audience craving for more towards the end. With that, the celebration kicked off an year-long campaign for Air Force 1 in China. via: SIZE

Nike Air Force 1 – “30th Anniversary & Year of the Dragon” Gold Custom | By Zhijun Wang

Posted: 24 Apr 2012 10:00 PM PDT

Nike Air Force 1 30th Anniversary & Year of the Dragon Gold Custom | By Zhijun Wang

Like the rest of us, Zhijun Wang of ZJ Design‘s access to the Bespoke program is limited if not improbable. But unlike the rest of us, Wang is a Beijing-base designer who already worked with some of the biggest names in China’s growing sports marketing industry. With access to design tools and a great grasp of customization know-how, the avid Basketball fan made his very own edition Nike Air Force 1 in honor of the classic silhouette’s 30th anniversary as well as the Year of the Dragon in Chinese Zodiac.

Handcrafted with Chinese pyrography, where patterns are burnished onto the object, Wang carefully etched out Taoist’s Eight Trigrams. Next, Wang created ocean waves that covered much of the front vamp, in reference to Water, this year’s elemental. Finally, Wang allowed parts of the “hidden” dragon to appear in forms of dragon scales Swoosh and dorsal graphics along the upper fringe. Gilded in gold accents, Wang embellished the design with the Five Elementals – Water as in the wave patterns, Fire as in the pyrography and laser etchings, Metal as in the metallic dubrets, Wood as in the custom wooden packaging, and finally, Earth as in the magnet closures on the wooden packaging. An elaborate pair of customs from a true die-hard fan…

Adidas adiZero Crazy Light 2

We already knew a new Adidas adiZero Crazy Light was in the works after a new take on this super featherweight caught our eye during March Madness. What we didn’t know, was what was truly in store for its release and what else could do to refine this already remarkable silhouette. But today finally unveiled the adiZero Crazy Light 2, which now takes over the label as the lightest basketball shoe ever at a lean 9.5 ounces. had the shoe’s designer, Robbie Fuller, on hand to help introduce us to their latest on-court creation, which he boats is 10% lighter than its nearest competitor even with more cushioning and stability built-in across its frame. Much likes its predecessor, the Crazy Light 2 uses Sprintframe and Sprintweb tech to provide total foot support, even up through the ankle giving both the games biggest and fastest players the performance they need. Adidas will begin the release initially with 5 colorway choices, including the Electricity and Black/Red versions after the jump, on May 24. Make sure to stay tuned as more looks become available.

Release Date:  May 24, 2012 (Thursday)

Google Doodle – Gideon Sundbäck 132nd Birthday Celebration

Google Doodle Gideon Sundbäck 132nd Birthday Celebration

No, this isn’t the Google doing a digital version of the stripe tease, though that itself would be an interesting proposition. Instead, the search engine giant is celebrating the achievement of one on what would’ve been his 132nd birthday. While virtually a footnote on the pages of American history, Sundbäck’s invention changed the way we live our lives today. That invention was Hookless No.2 Fastener, or the zipper. Though some form of fastener already existed before Sundbäck’s time, they were unreliable and still largely based a system of hooks and eyes. Sundbäck improved upon it with two rows of “teeth” instead, each offset by half a mere few center meters. When drawn together through a y-shape channel, the two sides locked into place and the modern day zipper was born. Sundbäck went on to patent his idea, as well as designed the machines that made his new fastener possible. The company he worked for at the time later became Talon Inc., the world’s leading zipper manufacturer till its merger with Japan’s YKK.
