Porsche built its first model back in 1948 and the first Porsche Club arrived four years later. Today the company is celebrating "60 years of Porsche Clubs" with the unveiling of the special edition Porsche 911 Club Coupe. The model is based on the 911 Carrera S and will be limited to only 13 units. Prices for the US market start at $175.580. This special edition comes offered in a very special "Brewster Green" exterior paint combined with trim strips in a high gloss finish. The model will be offered with a standard Sport Design Package that includes a distinctive front with front spoiler and a rear spoiler derived from the classical "duck tail". A new set of 20-inch SportTechno wheels completes the exterior look. The interior gets Luxor beige leather and embossed lettering "911 Club Coupe" as well as the illuminated door entry guards painted in Brewster Green with an inlay made of brushed stainless steel. Under the hood Porsche has placed the same engine as in the Carrera S, but equipped with a newly developed Powerkit upgrade that helps the engine to develop a total of 430 HP (a 30 HP compared to the 911 Carrera S). This extra power helps the car to sprint from 0 to 60 mph in just 4.0 seconds. Bad news is that the new Porsche 911 Club Coupe will be limited to only 13 units. Video: Jay Leno reviews the 2013 Shelby GT500 Posted: 26 May 2012 05:00 AM PDT
One of the latest models created by Carroll Shelby is the 2013 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500, so it’s not a surprise that this was the model featured in the latest episode of Jay Leno’s Garage. Next to Leno, Jamal Hameedi, SVT Chief Engineer, was also present providing all of us the best details on the new Mustang GT500. A very interesting thing to know is that Jay was the first guy outside of Ford to drive this 2013 high-performance model, but with a reputation like the one he has, that’s not surprising either! As a reminder, the 2013 Ford Mustang GT500 is powered by a 5.8-liter V8 engine that delivers a total of 650 HP. Its top speed may reach up to 200 mph, making it the most powerful production V8 in the world! Check out the video to learn more about the amazing Shelby GT500! Video: Gymkhana 4 revisited with less Hollywood and more driving Posted: 25 May 2012 11:00 PM PDT
In August 2011, Ken Block and his peeps over at DC Shoes unveiled "Gymkhana 4: The Hollywood Megamercial", the fourth installment of the world famous Gymkhana series. If you recall, that video was full of everything: drifting, screeching rubber, explosives, and some added special effects mixed into the equation. Fast forward to today and the people behind Gymkhana 4 have decided to release a re-edited version of the video with less of the pyrotechnics and more of Block’s real-life driving. The result, as you can see with the video, is a "purer" version that doesn’t attempt to enhance the spectacle of Block’s insane drifting talents through explosives and digital effects. This video is more about Block and his trusty Ford Fiesta H.F.H.V plowing through the course in true Gymkhana fashion. Check out the re-edited version above and the original after the jump. Then tell us which version you like more. On our end, we appreciate the substance of Block’s talents without having to deal with the "infused" style of special effects. Video: Red Bull Audi R8 LMS racing around abandoned racetrack in Spain Posted: 25 May 2012 09:00 PM PDT
Most racetracks are constructed so well that they last for decades after use has discontinued and unless they are made into housing developments, they will often stand the test of time and the Autódromo de Sitges-Terramar is no exception to that rule. Constructed way back in 1922 after just 300 days of work, the Terramar circuit was only used for 3 years before it was abandoned and has never been used since, until now. Professional racing drivers Carlos Sainz and Miguel Molina recently took a Red Bull-sponsored Audi R8 LMS racer to the 60 degree banked circuit to put on what can only be described as a true work of art. In addition to the eight minute long video accompanying the article, a selection of incredible pictures were also shot during the occasion. Despite the track being broken, bruised, and battered, it would have been an incredible experience for the two-time WRC champion and DTM racers. BMW M3 Electric Coupe "Pikes Peak" by EV West Posted: 25 May 2012 07:00 PM PDT
With the 2012 Pikes Peak International Hill Climb drawing closer and closer, we’re now getting a pretty good look at some of the cars that will be competing in the annual event in Colorado. One car, in particular, that caught our attention is this 1995 BMW M3 Coupe. On any other day, cars like this probably go unnoticed, but this one is pretty cool because it’s set to compete at Pikes Peak. Tuned to race by EV West, this M3 Coupe has been stripped down of pretty much everything that it won’t need on a racing set-up. What it does have now are a number of racing components, including a bucket racing seat, a full-body roll cage, a huge rear wing fitted on the trunk, plenty of carbon fiber panels, and a new set of 17" lightweight wheels. To ensure that the their M3 Coupe can compete with some of the quirkiest and more powerful Pikes Peak-bound cars competing in the annual hill climb, EV West took out the car’s standard 3.0-liter inline-six engine and replaced it with a twin-air cooled electric motor that produces a staggering 400 horsepower and an even more staggering 700 lb/ft of torque. Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera LP620-4 "Green Beret" by Wheelsandmore Posted: 25 May 2012 12:00 PM PDT
As evocative and downright exotic Wheelsandmore has been with their tuning projects, we can’t help but wonder if they end up running out of ideas at some point. Apparently, their recent run of new programs for some of the most powerful cars on the planet is proving that notion to be completely untrue. For their latest offering, the German tuner has set its sights on a car that needs no introduction: the Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera LP570-4. Every Wheelsandmore tuning program always carries a standard performance upgrade and the "Green Beret," as the company has called this baby, is no different. The German tuner went and combined a digitally program-able, remote-operated valve control with special carbon-frame airfilters and a remapped ECU unit with a handmade, stainless steel exhaust system, effectively giving the Gallardo Superleggera a sinister performance upgrade. How sinister? Well, from the standard 570 horsepower coming out of the super car’s 5.2-liter V10 engine, Wheelsandmore managed to increase that to a powerful 620 horsepower, hence the LP620-4 designation. But more than just the mechanical improvements, Wheelsandmore also gave the Italian supercar a new set of fancy 20" 6Sporz² handcrafted, multi-piece forged wheels that are rotating at the steering axle and wrapped in 5p Continental Sport Contact tires. Other improvements for the Green Beret include a new race established special coilover with adjustable rebound and compression, hydraulically liftable around 1.77 inch, and called LCS (level-control-system). For a tuner that has made a living out of programs like this, the Green Beret is yet another feather in the hat of these guys. BMW X6 Trophy Truck by All German Motorsports Posted: 25 May 2012 11:00 AM PDT
Trophy trucks are pretty bad-ass and so is the BMW X6. So what would that leave any automotive nut to figure? Well, the folks at All German Motorsports let us know the answer, as they pieced together a trophy truck based on the styling of the X6. Nearly every single component on this AGM-built X6 dune truck was custom fabricated, as components to build an X6 Trophy Truck are just not readily available. In the end, AGM ended up with a pretty sick creation, as this beast weighs a whopping 2,000 lbs less than the typical trophy truck, and even 300 lbs less than the lightest stock X6. Those weight savings are thanks to a Jimco Racing-built frame that is several hundreds of lbs lighter than the average trophy truck and a McGrath Fiberglass-built carbon fiber body, which saves a significant amount of weight over the average trophy truck. After all of that body and frame work, a BMW V-8 engine was shipped off to Denzo for a complete build up. This custom-built V-8 produces a massive 725 horsepower and 400 pound-feet of torque. All of this combined with a plethora of custom suspension and braking work netted the team one nasty, dune-ready X6. In its inaugural running, the truck had an axle failure and had to retire early. The following day, this trophy truck clawed from its last place slot to finish in 10th place for the series, which isn't bad considering it dropped out of the first race. There's nothing like seeing a luxury SUV cruising through the desert at speeds well in excess of 100 mph and getting some serious airtime at the same time. We will keep you updated on how this X6 Trophy Truck performs in future races, so stay tuned!
