Audi SQ5 TDI – First S Performance Model with Diesel Engine Posted: 15 Jun 2012 05:30 PM PDT Leading the pack once again, the four entries from Audi to this year’s 24 Hours of Le Mans – two R18 e-tron Quattro and two R18 Ultras, have all clocked some of the fastest lap time during qualifying rounds. But motorsport’s most prestigious endurance race isn’t just an oversized playground for members of Audi teams. The weekend festivities is also an exhibition venue for special models, like the new Audi SQ5 TDI. A crossover of another crossover, the Audi Q5, the SQ5 TDI is the newest member to the Audi S performance line and the first to have a diesel powertrain. Output rated at 313 horsepower with 479 pound-feet of torque, the twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 diesel engine is capable of propelling the car from 0 to 62 mph in just 5.1 seconds. The diesel orientation of the car also means a fuel consumption of just 32.67 mile per gallon. But to satisfy the “racer” within all of us, Audi modified the exhaust system to include a sound actuator and increase the engine rev noise via the interior stereo system. Branded with Audi S badges on front, back, and brake calipers, Audi will offer the SQ5 TDI in either Estoril Blue or Panther Black. Upholstered with black trim, the Pearl Nappa leather/Alcantara appointed sport seats are available in four different colors and power-adjustable. The Audi S branding is also on the instrument cluster, door sills, and gear shifter. Yet, the Audi SQ5 TDI is still a versatile people carrier with 55.09 cubic-feet in luggage space and a towing capacity of 5,291.09 lb. Starting price is set at EU€ 58,500 or US$ 93,420, the Audi SQ5 TDI will be available during the early part of 2013. Release Date: Spring 2013

HAROSHI – Feet Sculpture with Transparent Skate Shoes Posted: 15 Jun 2012 05:00 PM PDT Tokyo-based artist Haroshi is known for his artwork featuring repurposed skate decks, but his latest creations use the multi-colored wood sculptures as something of a framing device for transparent skate shoes that anchor the individual pieces. The kicks are made up of a Nike Dunk, Vans Half Cab and Hufnagel Pro by HUF, while the wooden “feet” feature multi-color stripes in horizontal or vertical alignments, as well as a mosaic-like patchwork pattern. The works are displayed now through the Jonathan LeVine Gallery at the SCOPE show at Art Basel 2012. via:AR

Kyle Bean – History of Mobile Evolution as Nesting Dolls | Video Posted: 15 Jun 2012 04:00 PM PDT The history of the cell phone can be seen as something of an evolutionary chart, measuring the speed of technology as brick-like handhelds give way to multifaceted smartphones. British designer Kyle Bean charts the progression in inventive fashion, creating a series of 3D models that function like Russian nesting dolls. The most primitive model is the bulky Motorola DynaTAC from the 1980s (aka the Zack Morris special), while the end of the line is occupied by the iPhone. In between are seven phones that represent varying epochs in mobile phone technology and design. Check out more looks and a video overview of Kyle Bean’s “Mobile Evolution” in the gallery below.
