Bentley to Debut a New Model at Goodwood Festival of Speed Posted: 13 Jun 2012 08:00 AM PDT
We have already heard from Renault about its intentions of having a "big surprise" in store for the Goodwood Festival of Speed, which we all anticipate being as exciting as the final production model of the Alpine or as boring as the redesigned Clio. Now Bentley is getting in on this surprise-car theme by bringing its own new unnamed model to Goodwood. There is very little information on this upcoming model, Actually it is a lot closer to no information than little, as the only word that we have is the luxury coach builder stating that the new model combines "stunning performance with exquisite luxury in the Bentley tradition." By the description, it sounds almost like the Continental GT Speed that is already set to run at the Goodwood FOS, but it would seem odd to outright compete with its own sport coupe. This could point to an even sportier car than the Continental GT gracing the "Flying B." Would we even dare to mention the term "sports car" in the same sentence as "Bentley?" If the description that Bentley gave of this car is true, then we very well may see a sleeker and sportier car bowing in at Goodwood. We know that Bentley has broken its own mold in producing the EXP 9 F SUV concept, which will also be shown at Goodwood. This points toward Bentley’s openness to change, but is it open enough to bang out a super luxurious sports car? We’ll just have to see. We will keep a close eye on what's going on with Bentley and we will update you if anything else pops up. Given how tight-lipped Bentley has been so far, we will likely not know anything until the Goodwood FOS opens up on June 28th. Click past the jump to read Bentley’s press release. Ferrari has already confirmed two things for its future. The first to come was the fact that it will soon feature a V-12 hybrid drivetrain dubbed the HY-KERS system. The second thing that Ferrari confirmed was the fact that a new Enzo-like vehicle will debut in the coming years boasting this HY-KERS system as its power plant. Some snooping around also produced that this new "Enzo" may bear the F70 name. Currently, the details on this upcoming F70 are scarce, at best, and all we have seen in the form of visuals on it are some spy shots of its testing mule, which looks more like an Italia 458 with poorly placed metal slabs bolted onto it. The same rings true for the interior. What we do know is that in an effort to reduce weight, the F70 will include some carbon-fiber panels. We also know a good deal about the 6.3-liter V-12 HY-KERS (Hybrid-Kinetic Energy Recovery System) that will power it. Starting with the internal combustion side; this engine will be as efficient as possible, using multi spark technology – a series of cooler sparks as the piston travels upward – that assures that no fuel goes to waste by the spark plug igniting multiple times before the each cylinder hits top-dead-center. This combustion engine links to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. On the electrical side, you have a series of components working together for optimal efficiency. On the backside of the seven-speed trans, you have a high-power traction motor. This motor electrifies the seven-speed trans, adding to the power the engine delivers to it. Attached to the gasoline engine is an auxiliary generator that charges the batteries, as needed. Lastly, on top of the transmission is the hybrid power unit, which features two inverters and a smart cooling system. All of this crazy technology plops down a whopping 920 combined horsepower and a 0 to 200 km/h (124 mph) time of 6.5 seconds. This also drops the CO2 emissions by a whopping 40 percent, 10 percent more than the initial tests. We will continue to keep you updated with additions to this review, as more info becomes available, so stay tuned! UPDATE 06/07/2012: Until recently, the details we had on the Ferrari F70 were that it would come with a 7.3-liter V12 engine combined with the company’s HY-KERS system for a total of 920 HP. Now, new details suggest that the Enzo successor will in fact be even more powerful, boasting a biturbo engine, most likely a V12, combined with the HY-KERS system and a four-wheel drive system for a mouthwatering 1000 HP. It just keeps getting better and better! (Autoblog.nl) Ferrari F70 HY-KERS originally appeared on topspeed.com on Monday, 30 April 2012 10:00 EST.
Ferrari 612 Scaglietti destroyed by Scottish man wielding axe and knife Posted: 13 Jun 2012 06:00 AM PDT
Crashing an exotic is bad enough, but locking your Ferrari 612 Scaglietti in an expensive garage at a Scottish Ferrari dealership only to find that it's been destroyed by an axe-wielding intruder is something else entirely. This is, unfortunately, not a figment of our imagination. The owner, Rajinder Singh, booked the car into the local Ferrari dealership garage to have a pump fixed and one would assume that Ferrari would take extensive measures to ensure the garage is safe, but as proved by this case, it wasn't. Not long after leaving the car for its repair work, the expensive GT-car had its windows smashed and the tires slashed by a knife when the intruder broke into the garage, but as for now, those are all the details we can bring you. If there is a silver lining in this cloud of grey, it's the fact that the whole event was captured on CCTV so arresting the man responsible should be a breeze for local police. The owner had the following to say to the Daily Record: "This has been a nightmare. The car was just in the garage to get a pump fixed when this happened. The car costs £207,000 new and the damage will cost about £40,000 to get fixed. It is bad enough that this has happened but the garage have been useless. The whole thing is a bad joke. I gave the garage a car worth more than £200,000 and they give me back a car that is effectively written off. The police asked me if there could be anyone who has a grudge against me but the garage is miles from my home. No one would have known it was my car. The police say they have investigated, got no leads and say there's nothing else they can do." And we cannot blame the owner for his frustration. If there are any eagle-eyed Scottish readers out there, keep an eye out! Unveiled in 1993, the C-Class quickly became one of the best sold models in Mercedes’ line-up. This impressive success is contributed to the car’s relatively cheap price - when compared to other Mercedes models - but also to its compact size. The first generation stayed in production until 2000, and from 2000 to 2007 Mercedes sold the second generation C-Class. As of 2007, the model is in its third generation (W204), and that generation came with a completely new exterior design language, more compact dimensions that offer a generously sized interior, and an improved engine line-up. In 2011, the C-Class received a facelift that brought on a new front and rear design, more power from a new V6 engine, and improved fuel consumption. For the 2013 model year, the C-Class will continue its path of improvement with some small changes under the hood to make the C-Class even more powerful. Spy Shots: New Kia Sorento Strips Down Posted: 13 Jun 2012 04:00 AM PDT
Ever since the beginning of 2012, the next generation Kia Sorento has been caught testing a few times, but the SUV was heavily camouflaged every single time. Now, it seems as though the stripping process has begun for the Sorento, as new spy shots reveal the prototype without the traditional Kia/Hyundai sack at the front and back. As we have previously reported, the next Sorento will feature some design elements inspired by the new generation C’eed, including its new designed headlights with LED day driving lights and new front and rear bumpers. The interior will also get higher quality materials and new technologies. As for the engine lineup, Kia is still keeping the power sources a secret, but we expect to see the same choices of four-cylinder and V6 engines with updates to improve both the final output and fuel economy. The next generation Kia Sorento is expected to be unveiled sometime in 2013. Spy Shots: New Kia Sorento Strips Down originally appeared on topspeed.com on Wednesday, 13 June 2012 11:00 EST.
Renault to tackle Goodwood with new Alpine A110-50 Concept Posted: 13 Jun 2012 03:00 AM PDT
The Goodwood Festival of Speed is the ultimate expression of speed, power, and noise when sports cars, supercars, hypercars, luxury cars, and hot hatches tackle the legendary 1.16-mile hill climb. Additionally, the Festival of Speed also gathers a huge collection of current racing cars and their drivers and past racing cars and their drivers together. Despite Renault's recently launched Alpine A110-50 concept being one-of-one, Renault recently announced that it'll be tackling the legendary hill climb in the car. This announcement comes in line with Renault's recent announcement that it's planning a 'big surprise' for the Festival, but we can confirm that that big surprise is not in fact that the Alpine will be competing. Nevertheless, the French brand also confirmed that an extensive list of other racers will compete at the hill climb, including the R5 Maxi Turbo, Megane trophy racer, Alpine A443 and two of the brand's most historic Formula One cars, being the RE40 and RS01. We can confirm that Renault obviously won't be attempting to break the current hill climb record as the A110-50 'only' pumps out 400 horsepower whereas other racers competing will produce in excess of double that. Either way, it's certainly going to be a very special sight to see and will hopefully be the first of many racing events the Alpine A110-50 Concept will take place in the coming months. Spy Shots: Aston Martin Vanquish caught completely naked! Posted: 13 Jun 2012 02:00 AM PDT
It was just discovered a few weeks ago that the successor for the Aston Martin DBS would revive the legendary Vanquish name when CAR caught the rear end of the car completely undisguised. Now, our spy photographers were also able to be in the right place at the right time when they were able to catch what looks to be the new Vanquish completely undisguised somewhere in Padua, Italy. Even though the new Vanquish is the successor for the current DBS, it looks about 75% new. From these images, we see that the new sports car was clearly inspired by the Project AM 310 unveiled by Aston Martin at the 2012 Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este, with some design elements also take from the One-77 supercar. According to numerous rumors, the new Vanquish will use plenty of carbon fiber to keep its weight down. Under the hood, Aston Martin will place the same 6.0 liter V12 engine, but its output will be increased from 517 HP to 573 HP. The engine will be mated to a new 8-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifter controls on the steering wheel. The official debut for the Aston Martin Vanquish will be made in August 2012, so stay tuned! Lamborghini L2800 Android tablet Posted: 12 Jun 2012 09:00 PM PDT
Usually when you say Lamborghini you automatically think at hot supercar. But, by time to time the Italian company is teaming up with different high-tech companies and come up with things wearing their famous bull logo. For example, do you remember the ASUS Lamborghini VX6 and VX7 announced about two years ago? If you do, today we have another surprise for you: a new android tablet sold under the name Tonino Lamborghini. In fact, to be more precise, the new tablet will wear the famous bull logo, but Tonino Lamborghini is the company responsible for developing watches, cigarettes, PCs and much more and it is a little bit different from the Lamborghini in Sant’Agata. The new table features a 9.7-inch display with a resolution of 1024 x 768 and comes equipped with a a 1.2GHz Qualcomm, 512 RAM and a storage capacity of 4 GB, but expandable. The table is priced at 1830 euro - $2,300 at the current exchange rates. So it seems that a Lamborghini logo costs pretty much, as the tablet itself is not very impressive. Video: Ford Mustang High Gear wins Mustang Build Powered by Women Posted: 12 Jun 2012 08:00 PM PDT
About a month ago, Ford partnered with the SEMA Businesswomen's Network (SBN) for a special contest that featured three 2013 Mustang GTs being designed by the SBN. The winning design will then be built by Ford to be shown at SEMA later this year where it will be auctioned off for the benefit of the SEMA Memorial Scholarship Fund. Fan voting for the contest was done from May 23 - June 3, 2012, and now it appears we have a winner. The "High Gear" Mustang was selected as the victor in the first SEMA Mustang Build Powered by Women competition. The car, which was designed by model Jennifer Seely, was inspired by items that models are very familiar with: jewelry, couture clothing, and architecture. The High Gear Mustang was dressed in a Satin Black finish and gets a number of exterior additions, particularly the ventilated hood and the rose-gold chrome accents. In addition, Seely designed the muscle car’s interior with suede seats and a leather-wrapped dashboard to go with a high-end audio system. The High Gear Mustang concept will be built at the SIM Headquarters in El Segundo, California before making its debut at the SEMA Motor Show. TopSpeed Rendering: 2014 Porsche 911 Targa Posted: 12 Jun 2012 01:00 PM PDT
Last week, we brought you the first spy shots of the upcoming Porsche 911 Targa and today, we’re bringing you a rendering inspired by those spy shots. As you probably remember, the new generation 911 Targa will bring back the famous fixed Targa roof option offered for the first time in 1965. The spy shots taken last week showed Porsche’s attempt to hide this feature, but upon closer inspection, the model hidden under it was pretty clear. Our rendering strips the vehicle of its camouflage to reveal the Targa roof further. Under the hood, Porsche will place the same engines found in all of the new 911 models. This means we will see a 3.4 liter flat-six engine with 350 HP for the base version and a 3.8 liter flat-six with 400 HP for the 4S version. Both engines will be mated to Porsche’s new optional seven-speed PDK gearbox. Expect to see the new Porsche 911 Targa launched in 2013.
