V-12 Mercedes-Powered Shelby Cobra is Pure Auto Perfection Posted: 24 Jun 2012 05:00 AM PDT
To say we absolutely love every Shelby Cobra to death is an understatement. This also breeds a little hatred in our hearts for those that take a hacksaw to them and start modifying stuff. However, here are some modifications to Shelby Cobras that we can stomach and some that we completely fall in love with at first sight. Magnis Jinstrand's modified Shelby Cobra just happens to fall squarely in the latter classification… This beautiful example of automotive genius boasts a disgustingly sexy 6.0-liter Mercedes V-12 with an equally disgusting loud-mouthed supercharger strapped to its intake. There's no information on the power pushed out by this mean machine, but judging by the above video, we would have to estimate it to be in the 700-horsepower range. The exposed supercharger really just does it for us. Not only does it look awesome, but it is about the only whining that I can say I want to hear while driving a car. This blower obliges by providing plenty of it in audible goodness. We are unsure what other modifications this Cobra has on it and we are also unsure if this is actually a real AC Cobra or not. Chances are that it's a kit car sitting on a custom chassis, especially given how well it handles. Regardless of its authenticity, it is still one sexy beast. We will update you if we happen to come up with any of the vehicle's specs. Until then, crank your speakers up and enjoy. McLaren celebrates 12 month milestone of MP4-12C and worldwide expansion Posted: 24 Jun 2012 02:00 AM PDT
It's hard to imagine that it's been exactly twelve months since the McLaren MP4-12C went on sale and since McLaren Automotive began its massive worldwide expansion of dealerships and showrooms which now stretches to no fewer than 22 countries across the globe. Yet by some miracle, the past 12 months have flown by. When compared to its main competitor, Ferrari, having dealerships in 22 countries may not sound very impressive but when you consider that all of this has been achieved in 12 months, it's a remarkable achievement. Additionally, in just 12 months, the English brand has managed to sell 1,000 units of the MP4-12C with more orders coming in by the day. Up to 400 of these units are believed to be heading towards the U.S., so there's no doubting the fact that American streets will be filled with 12C's in the coming years. The McLaren Automotive network now reaches the U.K, Hong Kong, Australia, Singapore, Japan, South Africa, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, United Arab Emirates, Canada, U.S.A, Monaco, Sweden, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, Belgium, Spain, Germany and France. While speaking about the matter, Managing Director of McLaren Automotive, Antony Sheriff stated, "This is a proud moment in time for everyone at McLaren where, in only 12 months, the 12C has established itself as one of the most acclaimed high performance sports cars in the world amongst a very discerning customer. From the day that Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button officially opened our very first showroom in London, McLaren is now present in 38 cities in 22 countries across the globe." "At the heart of this journey is a single-minded focus on the very highest quality and personal care and support wherever our customers are in the world. That is what our customers expect after they buy the car, and are just as important as a fast lap time", he concluded. Video: Deer Meets Corvette Z06 at Triple-Digit Speeds... Deer Loses Posted: 23 Jun 2012 11:00 PM PDT
I have had the pleasure of driving along the side of an 18-wheeler on the interstate when it collided with a deer. While there was no damage to my "precious" Hyundai Accent, I was scrubbing atomized deer meat from my car that night. So if that’s what happens at circa 50 mph, what would happen at triple-digit speeds? Well, I guess I can scratch that question off of my list, as we get a good look at it in the above video. At HyperFest in good 'ol West Virginia, James Greenwood was cruising around the Summit Point track enjoying the friendly race. It was so friendly that as he passed a slower Mustang, he gave the driver a quick wave. Just after that wave comes a deer bolting from the left of Greenwood's Z06 `Vette and *wham* no more deer. With the sloped front end of the `Vette, the deer obviously didn't disintegrate like one does when it meets a speeding semi, but we bet that deer sure did fly rather high in the air. You can see that Greenwood learned a valuable lesson, always have your visor pulled down when racing, as he almost catches some glass and various deer components in the face. Fortunately his reaction time is quick enough and he got his arm up in time to block his face. Greenwood was just fine, of course, but the deer and the Z06 were likely both put out of commission. The Z06, will likely spend the next few weeks in a body shop. The deer, well, who knows what West Virginians do with roadkill deer meat… Video: Deer Meets Corvette Z06 at Triple-Digit Speeds... Video: Hot Wheels gearing up to attempt its own version of the double loop Posted: 23 Jun 2012 11:00 AM PDT
When Top Gear Live recently attempted - and succeeded - the first double loop stunt in history, you knew that at some point in time, somebody was going to try to replicate it. Apparently, that ’point in time’ is about to happen at the end of the month. Hot Wheels is planning its next big stunt, and it’s going to take the concept of the double loop and add a pretty serious twist to it by having two drivers do it side by side. The bar has definitely been raised. Hot Wheels is no stranger to wild stunts like this. Last year, Tanner Foust broke into the Guinness Book of World Records by setting a record jump at the Indy 500. You all remember that, right? Well, the toy company’s penchant for stunts and theatrics will come alive once more at the end of the month during the 2012 X Games in Los Angeles. Check out the teaser video to see what we’re all in store for when Hot Wheels don their Evel Knievel capes once again.
