Posted: 11 Jul 2012 12:00 AM PDT At first glance these Nike Air Max 90s could pass for the iconic Infrareds, but a closer look reveals some key differences, starting with the hits of red that skew more to a crimson shade than Infrared. There are also the signifiers that indicate the shoe’s place in the “City Pack” range, one overt and one implicit: a tongue tag inscribed with Nike branding and a London designation, plus an icy translucent outsole covering a portion of the London Underground map. A JD Sports exclusive, the kicks are available now at the UK retailer’s online store.

Posted: 10 Jul 2012 11:00 PM PDT Design firm Artefact introduces what could very well be the future of printing: the See What You Print concept. The device is essentially a rectangular black box, devoid of any buttons and equipped with a large touchscreen for cropping and rotating images. Whatever you see on the screen is what eventually prints out (which explains the name), while wireless connectivity to the camera and integration with Facebook and Flickr make for an even simpler printing experience. Meanwhile, the radically simple design of the box makes access to the paper tray and ink cartridges that much easier. Check out a video of the See What You Print concept in action below.

Brett Golliff: Tinker Hatfield on the Nike Air Safari Posted: 10 Jul 2012 09:30 PM PDT Designer Brett Golliff is a self-described “footwear nerd” who’s worked with Jordan Brand, Nike and New Balance. His passion for sneakers has led him to create the “Form, Function & Philosophy Podcast,” in which Golliff sits down to discuss the development of sneaker design with the designers themselves. In Golliff’s own words, “The whole goal of the podcast is to share with the world what I’m learning and what goes into the products and why the products look the way they are when they’re on the shelf.” The second edition of the podcast features a conversation with Nike legend Tinker Hatfield about the Nike Air Safari. It’s a great story, which you can hear from Tinker himself. Download the podcast here.

Bell & Ross – Vintage WW2 Regulateur Heritage Watch Posted: 10 Jul 2012 08:32 PM PDT As its entry to BASELWORLD 2012, the Vintage WW2 Regulateur Heritage Watch from Bell & Ross was in fact its third iteration which highlighted the importance of military timepiece. The endeavor started in 2011 with Bell & Ross PW1 (or Pocket Watch 1), a pocket watch with similar styling and functionality as those used during World War I. That was then followed by WW1 (or Wrist Watch 1), a facsimile of wrist watch from the time period. This year, Bell & Ross took references from time keeping instruments utilized by World War II bombardiers in calculation of flight and navigational positions. As with those from 50+ years ago, the Vintage WW2 fashions a “gun metal” sandblasted steel with PVD finish 49 mm case. Enclosed, a Dubois Depraz mechanical movement with automatic winding. Because of gloved hands, the navigational timepieces then are usually quipped with a large bi-directional bezel to help time markings. As a contemporary replica, Bell & Ross added a large bezel to the Vintage WW2. Sapphire crystal to minimize scratches, the Bell & Ross Vintage WW2 is waterproof up to 50 meters and comes with a distressed calfskin band. Similar to the rest of the Vintage Series, only a limited number of the Vintage WW2 will be available at Bell & Ross dealers worldwide.

Ducati Multistrada Biuta Custom Motorcycle | By Carlo Roscio Posted: 10 Jul 2012 07:05 PM PDT There is some truth in the saying ” Slow and Steady Wins the Race” when it comes to this particular Ducati custom. Built by Carlo Roscio of Pavia, Italy, and his brother, over the course of two years, the Ducati Multistrada “Biuta” is a tuned version of the 2003 Ducati Multistrada 1000DS, though hardly recognizable since the only things from the original bike are the frame, gas tank, and the two-cylinder 1000DS engine. No mere DIY project, the brothers first disassembled, then rebuilt every aspects of the bike. Not satisfied with third party add-ons, they fabricated the subframe, fashioned carbon-fiber parts themselves, and salvaged LED turn signals from a Volkswagen Touran, in addition to Buell aftermarket parts, Ohlins shocks from Honda CBR, Aprilia RSV handle-bars, and Yamaha MT-03 headlight. Distinctively unique down to the Baby Blue color scheme, the Ducati Multistrada Biuta Custom Motorcycle really exemplified the definition of what a “chopper” is despite its Italian origin. via: il Ducatista

Spike – Real Keyboards & Protective Cases for the iPhone | By SoloMatrix Posted: 10 Jul 2012 06:30 PM PDT Even the most loyal iPhone user would have to admit typing on glass can at times be a challenging endeavor. Enter the Spike TypeSmart, a folding keyboard for the iPhone 4 and 4s from father and son outfit SoloMatrix. The fold-over physical QWERTY keyboard is built into a case for the phones, measuring less than a quarter-inch thick so it’s unobtrusive when it’s folded back and not in use. It’s also the same size as the virtual keyboard underneath, the individual keys activated by the pressing of the tactile keyboard — meaning, no Bluetooth or any other exterior power source. The project is up on KICKSTARTER now with 31 days and a little less than $24,000 to go. There you’ll find three versions on offer: the Spike 1 has a flip-up keyboard, while the Spike 2 is equipped with a keyboard with a 360-degree hinge. The limited edition Spike 3 is similar to the 2, but is made in the U.S.A. with an all aluminum, antenna neutral case, plus custom engraving on the back. Check out a video overview below.
