NASA Space Shuttle Enterprise Pavilion – New York City | Opens Now Posted: 19 Jul 2012 09:30 PM PDT The new exhibit for NASA‘s space shuttle Enterprise at the Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum opened in NYC Thursday (July 19th). Visitors first pass through an airlock into a darkened atmosphere, designed to keep the pressurized pavilion exhibit inflated to evoke the feeling of being in space. The museum is built into the retired U.S.S. Intrepid World War II aircraft carrier, rising 60 feet above the Intrepid’s flight deck, its nose propped up so that it’s level with the deck. The arrangement allows visitors to get an up-close view under and around the original NASA prototype shuttle, one that never actually saw space but was used to determine the cause of the Columbia disaster, as well as providing parts for the other five shuttles. BMW Pavilion at Olympic Park | London Posted: 19 Jul 2012 05:00 PM PDT BMW Group has unveiled their Olympic Park Pavilion, located on East London’s Waterworks River that appears to float on the water, with a curtain of water flowing down its glass walls creating a visually stunning tableau. Designed by Serie Architects, the two-story structure has a lower floor exhibition area dedicated to the London 2012 Games fleet, plus a series of informative interactive displays. The top floor features nine individual standalone pavilions displaying current and future BMW vehicles, including the i3 Concept, i8 Concept and the new generation 3 Series Touring. According to Tim Abbott, managing director of the BMW Group UK, “The role of the Pavilion is two-fold — to explain the support we’re providing as the Official Automotive Partner to the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, but also to provide a powerful visual symbol of our commitment to the highest standards of innovation in design and sustainability.” View more in the gallery below. via: contemporist

IKEA – A New Kind of Catalog | Video Posted: 19 Jul 2012 04:00 PM PDT For those who can’t wait for IKEA‘s 2013 print catalog, shipping to homes sometime in August, they’ll have access to a digital version launching on July 31st, as well as an IKEA Catalog App for smartphones and tablets featuring augmented reality. What this means is that users can scan pages from the print 2013 catalog (ones marked with a special smartphone symbol), which unlocks additional video and interactive content, including behind the scenes footage, 3-D models, how-to info and interviews with IKEA designers. The 2013 catalog also offers substantive changes, altering its format to acknowledge that people now live in multi-functional spaces. The upshot: the catalog will no longer divide the home into rooms. Check out a preview video of the 2013 Ikea Catalog App below.

PATTA: Past, Present and Future – Masta Lee on closing Patta Posted: 19 Jul 2012 03:30 PM PDT Over the past few years a series of high-profile sneaker collaborations made Amsterdam’s Patta a household name in the streetwear firmament, and its curated brand offerings made the retailer a respected force that seemed incapable of taking any missteps. Posted: 19 Jul 2012 03:00 PM PDT Over 3 months ago, soccer fans caught a glimpse of the future when adidas Soccer announced the creation of so-called “Smart Soccer”, where by each player’s performance can be track in real-time by the coaching staff on the sideline. Today, more information about that system came to light during a joint media summit in New York City. Hosted by officials from Major League Soccer (MLS), adidas, along with MLS Commissioner Don Garber and Herbert Hainer, CEO of adidas Groupe, the press event unveiled the adidas miCoach Elite, the next step in the fusion of science, technology, and sports. adidas started the development process two years when it conducted interviews with the world’s leading soccer players and coaches in understanding their needs on the pitch. What resulted was the adidas miCoach Elite, a virtual performance gauge with real-time data on each of the player out on the field. It functions much like a localized pager system, where a Data Cell, held by the player’s soccer jersey in the back, transmit several key matrices, including heart rate, speed, acceleration, intensity, distance, and the new power output measurement. The adidas miCoach Elite is heading to primetime for its debut on July 25th when MLS All-Star Team go up against Chelsea F.C. in Philadelphia.
