Now that we have seen the new Mercedes CLS Shooting Brake and we know that the company is also working on a baby CLS - known as the CLA, people are also talking about a CLA Shooting Brake. The new model is rumored to go on sale in 2014 and it is rumored to be priced from about £28,000 - or about $43,000 at the current exchange rates. The future CLA Shooting Brake will be built on Mercedes’s new Modular Front Architecture (MFA) platform and will take its design inspiration from the recently announced CLS Shooting Brake, including its so-called soft nose and dramatic swage line treatment. Under the hood Mercedes will place the same engines as in the CLA: a 1.6 liter turbocharged petrol engine offered in two versions: one with 121 HP and one with 154 HP. Top version will be powered by the same engine as the CLA 45 AMG: a 2.0-litre four-cylinder unit that will deliver about 330 HP and 332 lbs-ft of torque. This version will be equipped with a four-wheel drive system and will sprint from 0 to 60 mph in just 5.1 seconds and up to a top speed of 155 mph. Spy shots: Aston Martin Rapide S caught testing for the first time Posted: 04 Jul 2012 07:30 AM PDT
Aston Martin Rapide S has been rumored for quite some time now, but just now Aston Martin decided to take the car out for some testing sessions. And luckily for us our spy photographers were in the right place at the right time and managed to shot some images of the next Rapide S. As you can see the prototype is heavily camouflaged and its pretty difficult to see what changes will be made for the luxury sedan, but the spoiler looks as it will go deeper than on the normal Rapide, and the grille has also grown and will receive bigger air intakes - proof that under the hood there will be a more powerful engine. At the back the rear lights have also been changed and the spoiler is also bigger and more sculpted. Under the hood Aston Martin will place the same 6.0 Liter V12 engine, but with output will go up to about 500 - 520 HP. It has also been rumored that the next Rapide S will also get a modified chassis setup. Expect to see the new Rapide S launched by the end of the year. The USA is celebrating its independence and Jeep is rolling out a special edition Wrangler to commemorate the occasion. The special Wrangler is called the Freedom Edition and it’s being released as a limited-run model that’s based on the Wrangler Sport. In line with its "tribute to the military" theme, the Wrangler Freedom Edition will be made available in three special color finishes involving the three shades that make up the US flag: Deep Cherry Red, Bright White, or True Blue. Among the exclusive features attached to the Wrangler Freedom Edition include "Oscar Mike" badges, an homage to the military lexicon of "on the move." In addition, star badges can also be found on the front hood and the rear-quarter panel while star images have been embroidered on the setbacks, which is then visually complemented by silver stitching. Likewise, silver accents can also be found on the interior, particularly on the Mopar slush mats. As far as performance, the Wrangler Freedom Edition will be powered by a 3.6-liter V6 Pentastar engine, one that produces 285 horsepower. Anybody interested in this special edition, patriotism-inspired Wrangler will need to fork over $29,090 for the two-door model and $31,595 for the four-door model. Better yet, for every model sold by Jeep, the automaker is sending over $250 to a number of charities, including the Fisher House Foundation and the I Support Foundation. Spy shots: Opel Insignia goes testing again Posted: 04 Jul 2012 06:30 AM PDT
Back in April the facelift version of the Opel Insignia has been caught testing for the first time and it looks like Opel took it out again, this time during some hot weather testing in Southern Europe. This could be one of the latest testings for the new Insignia considering the car is expected to be unveiled in September at the Paris Auto Show. This time our spy photographers have caught testing both the sedan and the Sports tourer versions. As you can see from these spy shots, the changes are focused on re-designed bumpers, front head lights, grille and rear lights. The rear lights on these prototypes are just build for test purpose without giving away the finished version that are likely to be LEDs. Rumors say that Opel will also be offering a few changes under the hood where the engine line-up will receive some upgrades in order to reduce the fuel economy. Porsche Panamera Diesel by TechArt Posted: 04 Jul 2012 06:00 AM PDT
In its standard version the Porsche Panamera Diesel is powered by a 3.0 liter V6 diesel engine that delivers a total of 250 HP. Good, but not very impressive for a luxury sedan like this. So, this is where the German tuner TechArt comes into focus. The tuner has just unveiled a pretty cool tuning package that increases the output from 250 HP to 280 HP (a 30 HP increase). Peak torque goes from 405 lbs-ft to 442 lbs-ft. For 2,490 euro (or $3,130 at the current exchange rates) clients will get an ECU upgrade and a Techtronic system. As a result the car will sprint from 0 to 60 mph in just 6.6 seconds and up to a top speed of 153 mph. The tuner is not offering any exterior or interior upgrades for the car, but the Panamera looks pretty cool from factory and it needs no changes to be made. Audi TT-S Coupe S-Line Competition Posted: 04 Jul 2012 05:00 AM PDT
The Audi TT-S Coupe has been pretty much overlooked in the German automaker’s line-up since the arrival of the R8 supercar. But even if that may be the case, the German automaker still sees potential in their baby sports car. So much so, in fact, that they’ve prepared a new trim for the TT-S, called the S-Line Competition. This TT-S Coupe S-Line Competition carries a distinctive look - a little on the RS side of style - that owes itself to Audi’s S Line Sport pack. A wide palette of colors are available to give off that distinctive look, including Samoa Orange, Glacier White, Daytona Gray, and Misano Red. From there, the car will also be treated to specially designed bumpers, air inlets and side sills, S line badges, tailpipe trims, and a unique diffuser insert. In addition, the program also features a fixed rear wing and high-gloss black details on the side mirrors, the diffuser insert, the tailpipe trims, and the rear wing spoiler. Last, but not least, the sports car was also fitted with a lowered suspension and a new set of 19" Rotor design wheels wrapped in 255/35 series tires. Inside, the modifications feature new sport seats dressed in leather, perforated Alcantara upholstery, special door sill trims, an aluminum-look trim, a flat-bottomed steering wheel, and matte brushed aluminum. Video: Infiniti Emerg-E breaks down at Goodwood Posted: 04 Jul 2012 04:00 AM PDT
This year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed should have been the official debut for Infiniti’s first Emerg-e running prototype, but as you know, things don’t always go as planned. Instead of showing us what an amazing car the Emerg-e is, Infiniti’s first running prototype ran for a little while and then broke down. It is not known for sure if this was a mechanical problem or if the Emerg-e ran out of power, but what we know for sure is that it needed to be towed. Do you remember what Jerry Hardcastle, Global Chief Marketability Engineer said before Goodwood? "The spectators will see not just an exquisite design but an example of our and our partners' technologies for an environmentally-friendly car brimming with true Infiniti driver appeal." Well, he got one part right: the Emerg-e was indeed environmentally-friendly, it didn’t actually run! Guess the previous reports about the vehicle were true: the Emerg-e may not be the halo car that Infiniti is seeking after all. Ever since crossovers became a hot thing in the early-2000s, seemingly every car manufacturer has taken the leap into the nearly full crossover pool. The newest market is the compact crossover market, which is just getting started. Fiat has decided that it's going to get into this side of the pool early on with a 500-based crossover. This new crossover, which is set to debut in Europe next year, will add to the growing 500 lineup, which currently includes the 500, 500C, 500L and the 500 Abarth. This new vehicle, which the consensus says will be dubbed the 500X, will feature three different engines, Fiat's two-cylinder turbocharged TwinAir engine, a 1.4-liter and a 1.3-liter turbo-diesel, and will be based on the 500L's chassis. If this model makes it to the U.S. – nothing is concrete on a U.S. release yet – it will have stiff competition from the MINI Countryman and a slew of new arrivals. No renditions or teaser images have been released yet, so we are all stuck using our imaginations. I seem to picture something similar to the Suzuki X-90 – one of my top-10 cool, yet ugly, cars – but with a hatch. We honestly do understand Fiat's slow-moving tactics here, but buyers are soon going to grow tired of the 500 model. Making subtle changes to an existing model to build buyer interest is a safe bet at first, but eventually buyers will start wondering what's next and lose interest altogether. It has only been a year since Fiat's return to the U.S., but it might be time to start considering moving more models to the U.S. Then again, Fiat is on a slippery slope, as it is also trying to keep Chrysler's head above water while trying to reintroduce its brand to the U.S. So let's cut them some slack, for now… 2012 Fiat 500 pictured above.
