Kia Names its New Luxury Flagship the Quoris Posted: 18 Jul 2012 08:00 AM PDT
Kia has been working on a flagship luxury sedan to compete with the likes of BMW and Mercedes. Yeah, we know... A Kia competing with BMW and Mercedes? Believe it or not, it is really true. The company that brought us disposable cars through the 1990s and early-2000s is stepping up in the world. We first brought the idea of this car to you in April, but at that time it was simply known as the K9. We also knew that it was set to boast a slew of powerful engines, including a 333-horsepower 3.8-liter V-6, a 385-horsepower 4.6-liter V-8, and a range-topping 5.0-liter V-8 that punched out 429 horsepower. Despite all of that information, we did not have an official name for it. Well, Kia has officially announced the name for this new sedan, and it’s a wild one. Kia has dubbed it the Quoris in all markets except the Korean market. This nonsense name is claimed to be a combination of the words "core" and "quality," but aside from having a few of the same letters, we just don’t see the connection. Then again, this name isn’t much odder than its sister company’s flagship sedan, the Hyundai Equus. Well, at least Equus is a word... Back on topic here... The Quoris – that’s even hard to type – is all set to debut later on this year, but pricing has yet to be released. We will continue to update you on this new luxury Kia as more info becomes available. Arrinera releases first sketches of production Venocara supercar Posted: 18 Jul 2012 07:00 AM PDT
You have to give credit to Arrinera; the Polish supercar automaker has weathered a storm of controversy following the release of their supercar concept, the Venocara. One of the criticisms involved the design of the supercar, which a lot of people thought looked eerily similar to the styling language of Lamborghini. Arrinera denied all those claims and to seemingly prove a point to its detractors, they decided to release the first sketches of the production model of the supercar. To be fair, the sketch doesn’t look like a Lamborghini; it looks like a Lamborghini AND a McLaren rolled into one. The complete design won’t be released until at least the end of the year, but judging from the sketches, we expect nothing less than to be blow away. We’ve heard and seen about the Venocara for quite some time now and the car’s engine specs - a 6.2-liter supercharged V8 engine with 641 horsepower and 605 lb/ft of torque - are nothing to sleep over. The supercar will also feature a carbon Kevlar body and a Noble-designed chassis; two qualities that aren’t exactly standard equipment in the industry. The future Arrinera supercar is also capable of hitting 0-62 mph in 3.2 seconds with a top speed of 211 mph. Check out the sketches provided and let us know what you think of the Venocara. Does it stand a chance in vehicular court? Arrinera releases first sketches of production Venocara supercar originally appeared on topspeed.com on Wednesday, 18 July 2012 14:00 EST.
BMW M3 V540 by VF Engineering and European Auto Service Posted: 18 Jul 2012 06:00 AM PDT
Every so often, VF Engineering and European Auto Source has a BMW program that captures our imagination. Remember the M3 "Orange Fever" from a few months ago? We certainly do, so when we found out that the two tuners were back to their old tricks again, we couldn’t resist finding out what their next project was. Well, we found out what it is: the BMW M3 V540. The V540 is pretty similar to the V620 in a variety of ways. For one, they’re both awesome, which really shouldn’t come as a surprise. For another, both programs come with insane performance modifications that surpass our expectations. In the case of the BMW M3 V540, European Auto Source and VF Engineering took the liberty of adding a Vortech V3Si compressor to the engine set-up. To give an idea on why this is significant, the compressor feeds 4.0-4.5psi of boost on the M3, resulting in drastic improvements in output (540 horsepower and 370 lb/ft of torque), acceleration, and throttle response, all while maintaining the engine’s overall reliability. On top of that, the modifications also include a CNC Machined T6061 supercharger bracket, T3 anodized to ensure strength and durability, a high flow Greddy Type R overrun bypass valve system, a K&N oiled type air filter that comes with a roto-molded intake tract, a Hex OBD2 USB flash cable that’s capable of loading multiple tunes and diagnostics to and from the car, upgraded Bosch fuel injectors, and silicone coupler hoses with normal euro-style hose clamps. Needless to say, the M3 V540 is all loads of awesome, something European Auto Source and VF Engineering have made a habit of doing recently. Comparison: Chevrolet Camaro 1LE vs. Ford Mustang Boss 302 Posted: 18 Jul 2012 05:00 AM PDT
Experts have thoroughly exhausted the competition between the Mustang GT500 and the Camaro ZL1. That competition is getting so old that even we are beginning to tire of it. The results are quite crystal clear in that competition; the Mustang kicks the Camaro’s ass in a straight line, but the Camaro is a better road car that takes on twisty roads with much more grace. One competition that has yet to be put to bed in the Mustang vs. Camaro rivalry is between two fairly even-matched opponents, the Mustang Boss 302 and the fresh-off-of-the-car-show-circuit Camaro 1LE. If you are wondering what "1LE" stands for, we’ll let you know. Back in the late 1980s – in the Camaro’s dark ages – Chevy put together a 1LE option package that included a radio and A/C delete, taller gearing for better acceleration, upgraded brakes, and an upgraded suspension. It was essentially a track-ready Camaro, which is a bit of an oxymoron for that era Camaro. This new 1LE model is pretty similar to the one of yesteryear, sans the deletion of much-needed comfort items. We’ll get into more of the specifics in a bit. So, how well does the Camaro 1LE stack up to the mighty Mustang Boss 302? You’ll have to click past the jump to read our full comparison to find out. Spy Shots: New Porsche 918 Spyder caught testing Posted: 18 Jul 2012 04:00 AM PDT
Porsche’s next halo car, the 918 Spyder, just got done running some laps at the Nürburgring for the first time, and lucky for us, our spy photographers were right there to take advantage of the glorious opportunity. As you can see, this prototype went from the classic black exterior paint to a very cool white combined with some Martini stickers - a first for the 918. The Porsche 918 Spyder will be powered by a race-derived 4.6-liter V8 engine combined with two electric motors for a total output of 762 HP and 552 lb-ft of torque. The model will be offered with "spectacular solutions such as a full carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) monocoque with unit carrier, fully adaptive aerodynamics, adaptive rear-axle steering, and the upward-venting "top pipes" exhaust system." For interested customers, Porsche will also be offering a Race Track package. The new Porsche 918 Spyder is set to be unveiled in September 2013 with the first deliveries to be made by the end of the same year. The model will be priced at $845,000 in the U.S., but only 918 units will be produced. Chevrolet Camaro is about to receive some major updates for the 2014 model year, but until then, the 2013 model will be getting a series of improvements to prep it for the following year. The major addition will be a new race-spec 1LE package, which will be joined by an updated interior with a new 7 inch color screen. The new 1LE package was previewed last year at the 2011 SEMA Auto Show with the Camaro 1LE Concept. It will be distinguished by a new front splitter and rear spoiler painted in smoke gray combined with a unique matte-black hood. The car will sit on a new set of 20" wheels in a 10-spoke design featuring low-gloss black finish and red Brembo brake calipers. The interior will add a ZL1 flat-bottom steering wheel, trimmed in suede-microfiber and designed for easier heel-and-toe driving on the racetrack. Chevrolet has also installed a quick-acting, short-throw shifter from the ZL1, also trimmed in suede-microfiber. The new 1LE package will only be available for 1SS and 2SS coupe models and will be powered by a 6.2 liter LS3 V-8 engine that delivers a total of 426 HP and 420 lb-ft of torque. The 1LE is only available with a six-speed manual transmission featuring a standard air-to-liquid cooling system for track use. The Chevrolet Camaro 1LE will go on sale in Fall 2012. UPDATE 07/18/2012: Chevrolet has released the first official photos of the Camaro 1LE plus new details on the latest addition to the Camaro line-up. Hit the jump for a full list of 1LE options. Spy Shots: BMW M4 Coupe caught testing for the first time Posted: 18 Jul 2012 02:00 AM PDT
So far, all we’ve heard about the upcoming BMW M4 Coupe have been rumors, but now the vehicle has finally been caught testing for the first time. As you surely know by now, the upcoming BMW 3-Series will only include the sedan and station wagon models, while the coupe and convertible will be sold as the 4-Series. This means that the M3 will only be offered as a sedan, and if you want to buy a performance coupe or a convertible, you’ll have to buy the M4. When compared to a standard 4-Series Coupe, the M4 version will get the usual M-design elements like the front bumper, LED headlights, a wide track, different side air intakes, a sports exhaust system, and larger wheels. Under the hood, the model will be rid of the current V8 found in the M3 and will benefit from a twin-turbocharged inline-six engine that will deliver about 450 HP. This will make the upcoming M4 both more powerful, as well as more fuel efficient than the current M3 Coupe. Video: Hennessey Venom GT Spyder driven by Matt Farah for TUNED Posted: 17 Jul 2012 09:00 PM PDT
After taking a break for a few months, the TUNED series on the Drive YouTube channel was recently renewed for a second series. In order to kick off the new show with a bang, Matt Farah recently got his hands on the very first Hennessey Venom GT Spyder produced, owned by none other than Steven Tyler! With only six Venom GT's having been produced thus far, and with this being the very first convertible variant, it's very rare that anyone would be allowed to drive such a car. Take into consideration that this is owned by the lead singer of Aerosmith, and it makes the following review all the more special. As the following video isn't a comparison of the Venom GT Spyder to any of its competitors, we'll give you a little insight into Farah's response to the car. Farah initially notes that the Venom GT Spyder actually rides better than the Lotus Elise for which it's based on and believes that the extended wheel base and extra rigidity may be responsible for those improvements. Furthermore, he confirms that it's unquestionably the most exclusive and fastest car he's ever driven and based on its top of the range specifications, we're not surprised. In top spec, the Venom GT Spyder utilizes the same twin-turbocharged Chevrolet-sourced V8 engine as its coupe sibling, which can pump out 1244 horsepower at 6,500rpm and 1,155 lb-ft of torque at just 4,200 rpm. When mated to the same Ricardo 6-speed transmission as found in the Ford GT, the Venom GT Spyder is said to sprint to 60 mph in just 2.5 seconds, before reaching 200 mph in 15.9 seconds. Top speed is claimed to be around 270mph. Video: Hennessey Venom GT Spyder driven by Matt Farah for TUNED originally appeared on topspeed.com on Wednesday, 18 July 2012 04:00 EST.
Video: Flo Rida gets chrome wrapped Bugatti Veyron Posted: 17 Jul 2012 08:00 PM PDT
Last year, rapper Flo Rida was charged with driving under the influence while in his $1.7 million Bugatti Veyron. Back then, he had his license suspended, but it seems that now the rapper is getting ready to get behind the wheel again. His Bugatti Veyron has just been wrapped in chrome by Metro Wrapz. The chrome wrap has been combined with a silver stripe going from the black hood to the back of the vehicle. This one small modifications probably just increased the price of his car to about $2 million. Must be nice. The Bugatti Veyron probably didn’t need this update in order for it to be noticed, but it looks like Flo Rida really likes shiny things. Let’s just hope he won’t be tempted to test the car’s top speed on the streets! Hit the jump to watch a little tease of the Chrome Bugatti Veyron by Metro Wrapz!
