The Mazda MX-5, or Miata as we generally call it in the U.S., has obviously been around for a long time; long enough to be the best-selling two-seat sports car of all time. But now there is a new generation of the car, and that means it’s time to get excited about it all over again. Mazda put out this short video of the first units of the car being offloaded from a ship in the U.S., appropriately named "Coming to America." What is perhaps most impressive about the video is how an overwhelming number of them are the same color. Apparently anything but red is essentially a special request.

The car looks good, and will surely be as much fun to drive as previous incarnations were. But this generation is more significant, as the platform will also underpin the upcoming reborn 2017 Fiat 124 Spider and there are even rumors that it will be the basis for the next generation of the Toyota GT 86/Scion FR-S/Subaru BRZ. So there’s a lot more at stake here than simply the reputation of a long-time go-to for a cheap way to have a lot of fun.
